Curiosity Isn’t Just for the Cats

Point Defiance Park May 2023

The keeper comes to speak of the Red Wolves and the rehabilitation efforts that are taking place at The Wolf Haven and Point Defiance Zoo. The wolves are often difficult to locate, as they are the least “socialized” as part of the breeding and release program. While these wolves will never leave their habitats, their pups have a chance to enter the wilderness.

The keeper throws a treat of meat for their waiting maws. They watch in adept attention, waiting to catch each morsel. As they walk and wander the perimeter. Regally, they stand, watching the keeper and the onlookers. For a moment, they are truly seen, before hiding behind the logs and in the tall grass, so all you see is an ear here, or a tail there. Their beauty often forgotten in a cry for justice due to lost livestock and fear.
